Woody Harrelson rules out True Detective return

November 5, 2017 by Gary Collinson

A few months ago it was confirmed that HBO is reviving True Detective for a third season, which will star Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) and is set to tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.

The show, created by Nic Pizzolatto, earned enormous acclaim for its first season featuring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, and while McConaughey has previously said he’d be up for reprising the role of Rust Cohle, Harrison has seemingly ruled out the possibility of his return as Marty Hart.

“I don’t see doing that [again], because it went very well the first time and come back around to it, what else are you going to hear but, ‘Not as good! Just wasn’t as good. Boy, you guys were good before, but this time…’,” Harrelson tells Yahoo. “I don’t want to even hear that.”

Harrelson’s opinion probably hasn’t been helped by the reaction to the second season. Let’s hope season three sees a return to form.
