Kevin Smith thinks the Millennium Falcon will be destroyed in Star Wars: Episode IX

January 17, 2018 by Samuel Brace

If Kevin Smith has to guess which sad character loss will occur in Star Wars: Episode IX, he is going with the beloved Millennium Falcon.

Now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in the rear view mirror, fans across the world are starting to think about what might come next in the saga, and what J.J. Abrams’ final film in the sequel trilogy will contain.

Director Kevin Smith, a notable fan of the Star Wars franchise, has said recently in his Fatman on Batman podcast that Episode IX will likely include another tragic character death and that he has a good idea who might be:

“They killed Han Solo in The Force Awakens.” Smith explained. “They killed Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi. Sadly, Carrie has passed, so they have to deal with the Princess Leia of it all. But what do you think is the next big loss?

“I think it’s the Falcon.” Smith said. “That would really rip all of our hearts out. And, at the same time, legacy cast is gone, maybe they don’t necessarily — if it’s a big enough story beat, I bet you that’s what goes.”

With fans likely growing even more attached to the Falcon after Solo: A Star Wars Story, this certainly seems like a likely option, and Smith believes that some characters will be off limits:

“They’ll never kill Chewie, because you could be Chewie for 400 years.” Smith added. “It’s a guy in a suit. They can’t kill any of the droids, that could be anybody and stuff. But they’ve got to kill something that makes us go ‘No! I f*cking love that from my childhood!’”

We will just have to wait until 2019 to see if Smith is correct with his estimations, but there is no doubt there will be one or two surprises of this nature on the cards.
