Patty Jenkins promises a totally different experience for Wonder Woman 2

January 4, 2018 by Jordan Jones

After Wonder Woman absolutely killed it this past June, a sequel was all but inevitable. It wasn’t too long before we received word of a June 2018 production start date for Wonder Woman 2, and confirmation that Patty Jenkins would be back in the directors chair.

Rumors have been circulating that the film will be set in the 1980s, with Wonder Woman facing off against the Soviets during The Cold War. While we don’t have official confirmation on that, we do have a bit of information regarding the sequel from Patty Jenkins herself. Talking to ET, the director promises a film that stands on its own:

“We’re actually making a totally different film with a lot of the same, similar like things that we love, but it’s its own movie completely, so it’s not ‘two’ to us. It’s an entirely new adventure together that we couldn’t be luckier [to do].”

It feels like the right move to craft a sequel that can stand on its own, given the tendency for shared-universe films to simply feel like advertisements for future films. We’ve been seeing this approach more and more lately, it feels. Jenkins has also stated that this film will feature a full-blown Wonder Woman, which will be interesting to see.

Given the divisive reactions to Justice League, it’s good to know that we have a very promising film — one of many actually — on the horizon from Warner Bros. and DC.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman sees Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.

… You can find Jordan on Twitter, and Facebook.
