Simon Pegg says Star Trek 4 script was finished before Quentin Tarantino pitched his idea

Prior to the release of Star Trek Beyond, Paramount Pictures officially announced that development was underway on Star Trek 4, which would have seen Chris Hemsworth making his return to the series as George Kirk, father of Chris Pine’s James T. Kirk.

The studio got as far as releasing an official synopsis for the sequel, before the lacklustre box office returns for Star Trek Beyond appeared to put the breaks on the project. The likes of Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban admitted that they were unsure as to whether the fourth movie would move ahead, and the final nail in the coffin appeared to come back in December when it was revealed that a new R-rated project had been put into development, based on a pitch by Quentin Tarantino.

Well, speaking to Geek.com, actor and Star Trek Beyond co-writer Simon Pegg has revealed that a script for Star Trek 4 does exist, although it sounds like Tarantino’s idea has now taken priority at Paramount:

“There’s a script that’s been written,” said Pegg, “and there’s also the story of Quentin Tarantino coming and chatting with J.J. Abrams about an idea that he’s had for a long time. That idea is going into the writer’s room to be looked at. I think it might take something like [Tarantino] to restart it. It’s an interesting proposition, although I don’t know if that means everybody will be blowing each other’s heads off with phasers and calling Klingons mother fuckers, but, who knows, that could be fun.”
