Jason Clarke in talks for Pet Sematary remake

April 17, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Having found its directors in Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes) back in October of last year, it looks like Paramount Pictures is ready to start moving forward with its big screen remake of the Stephen King novel Pet Sematary.

According to THR, Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Chappaquiddick) is in talks with the studio to take on the lead role of a father who moves his family next to the titular burial ground, which possesses the ability to bring its buried back to life.

Pet Sematary was originally adapted as a feature back in 1989, with Dale Midkiff starring as the father. It spawned the 1992 sequel Pet Sematary Two.

Several Stephen King adaptations are currently in development, with It: Chapter Two set to begin production this year and Hulu also set to premiere the anthology series Castle Rock, inspired by the Maine town featured in many of King’s works. Audience Network will also premiere a second season of Mr. Mercedes, while big screen adaptations of In the Tall Grass and Doctor Sleep are also in the works.
