Deadpool 2 passes $500 million worldwide as Ryan Reynolds shares photos of the first time he suited up as the Merc with a Mouth

May 28, 2018 by Gary Collinson

20th Century Fox’s superhero sequel Deadpool 2 is celebrating a box office milestone today, as the Merc with a Mouth’s second solo movie crosses the half billion mark worldwide.

The David Leitch-directed sequel has grossed $220 million domestically, with a further $280 million from the international markets (not including China, where it is yet to secure a release) after just two weekends.

Deadpool 2 is already the fifth-highest grossing installment in Fox’s X-Men series, sitting just $44 million short of 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Its predecessor remains the highest grossing of the series, having pulled in $783.1 million back in 2016.

Meanwhile, in other Deadpool news, Ryan Reynolds has taken to Twitter to unveil two images from back in 2015 which show him donning the Merc with a Mouth’s costume for the very first time; take a look…

Marvel’s motormouth mercenary is back! Bigger, better and occasionally more pantless than ever before. When a super soldier arrives on a murderous mission, Deadpool is forced to think about friendship, family and what it really means to be a hero – all while kicking 50 shades of ass. Because, sometimes, to do the right thing you need to fight dirty.

Deadpool 2 sees David Leitch (John Wick) directing a cast that includes returning stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) alongside new additions Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino, Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) as Cable, Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Bedlam, Lewis Tan (Iron Fist) as Shatterstar, Bill Skarsgard (It) as Zeitgeist, Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) as Russell, Jack Kesy (The Strain) as Black Tom Cassidy and Shioli Kutsuna (The Outsider) as Yukio.
