The directors of Avengers: Infinity War would be open to a Star Wars movie once they are done with Marvel

May 9, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Once their work is done with Marvel, the directors of Avengers: Infinity War would be open to stepping behind the camera on a Star Wars movie.

If directing what is looking to be one of the highest grossing movies ever is not a foot in the door to helm a Star Wars movie, it’s not clear what would be. And this is the position that Joe and Anthony Russo find themselves in with their well-received movie currently dominating the box office.

Directing an Avengers movie is one thing, however, but would the two directors be interested in taking on the pressure of making a Star Wars film? They are both under the Disney umbrella after all.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via ComicBook.com), Joe said: “I think we’ve just been part of the Marvel universe. And I think [Lucasfilm are] very respectful of Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios chief] and the Marvel universe.

“You know, when we’re done telling stories in Marvel, then is there the opportunity to maybe go tell some other stories?” Joe pondered. “We’ve not hidden the fact that Star Wars was a seminal experience like it was for everyone else. And that when The Empire Strikes Back came out, I sat in a theater from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and I watched it back-to-back-to-back. So I think we appreciate that universe as much as anyone. The question would be, ‘Can we find a story to tell in it? And what is it?’”

Would you like to see the Russos direct a Star Wars movie at some point? Has there work in the MCU earned them a shot in your eyes?
