The Russos reveal why Captain Marvel was left out of Avengers: Infinity War

May 8, 2018 by Samuel Brace

The directors of Avengers: Infinity War have revealed why Captain Marvel didn’t appear on screen.

Captain Marvel, set to be played by Brie Larson, had long been speculated to appear in Infinity War, but as fans will now be aware, the character does not appear during the movie.

When speaking about their decision to leave Captain Marvel out while on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via ComicBook.com), they were asked if she was ever likely to appear in the film:

“No, we want to save her reveal,” said Joe Russo.

“We also wanted to, it was very important to us to commit… we wanted to commit to this ending very hard,” said Anthony. “We didn’t want to go past the ending very much.”

“And we considered not doing any tags. For that reason,” Joe said. “Then we thought maybe it was too brutal. Everything’s about trying to find balance.”

Regarding what role she might play in Avengers 4, Joe said: “It’s hard to talk about the next one. We’re going to try to protect the secrets of that one the same way that we did on this one.”

“She will be a part of the MCU at that point,” Anthony said. “And part of the promise of these movies is that they are a road forward for all the films.”

Audiences can see the debut of the character in Captain Marvel in March 2019.
