Rebecca Ferguson joins Ewan McGregor in The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep

June 29, 2018 by Ricky Church

It looks like the Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep may have found its lead actress to star alongside Ewan McGregor. Variety has reported Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) is in final talks to star in The Shining sequel.

It is unknown what role she is up for, but McGregor is set to play an adult Danny Torrence who still struggles with his Shining and the events of the Overlook Hotel that cemented his father’s legacy. Doctor Sleep will be direct by Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game) from a script he wrote. Ferguson will be seen next reprising the role of Isla Faust in Mission: Impossible – Fallout alongside Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill later in July.

Doctor Sleep follows an adult Danny Torrance 36 years after the original novel. Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel, where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant shining power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.” There Dan meets Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival.

Doctor Sleep will be released on January 24th, 2020.
