Deadwood star comments on “gut wrenching” screenplay for revival movie

August 23, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Earl Brown, one of the stars of Deadwood, has shared his reaction to what he describes as a “gut wrenching” script for the revival movie.

The Wire. The Sopranos. Deadwood. These are a few of the shows that marked the onset of the golden age of television and all three remain incredibly well regarded to this day. In the case of Deadwood, the story isn’t quite over, as a revival movie has been confirmed by HBO.

Earl Brown, one of the stars of Deadwood, has now revealed his thoughts on the film’s script, taking to Twitter to share his thoughts. He seems to like it:

“I just read the final draft. Holy. Shit. In the course of those two hours, my emotions ricocheted in every fucking direction: exhilaration to melancholy; hoots of joy to screams of despair. The Maestro has topped himself.

“The structure is essentially the same as the first version I read a year and a half ago, but the complexities of the relationships, the emotional peaks and depths, are all sharpened to a razor fine edge. It’s gut wrenching.”

HBO and creator David Milch will be hoping audiences react as positively as Brown has, that’s for sure. Are you excited about the return of Deadwood?
