Eminem releases Venom title track as director discusses laying the groundwork for future films

September 1, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Hip-hop star Eminem dropped a surprise album this week, Kamikaze, which also happens to feature a track entitled ‘Venom’ – a tie-in to the upcoming Venom movie from Sony Pictures. You can check out the song via Spotify here…

Meanwhile, as the film’s October release draws closer, director Ruben Fleischer has been talking to Total Film (via MovieWeb) about the movie, and how it will lay the groundwork for future instalments in ‘Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters’:

“It’s very much a pure Venom story which is something that we’ve done with this film – try to make it as much Venom’s movie as we could,” said Fleischer. “You know, we have limitations in the inception of the movie… And then also the title, Lethal Protector. At that point, Venom has achieved this antihero quality. But he’s not just a pure villain. As it says, a lethal protector. So he’s a violent vigilante…so he’s somewhere in between.”

“The movie’s just all about Venom, so that’s what we’re focused on,” he continued. “It’s introducing Eddie and Venom. And then as to where it goes from there? We’ll have to see.. We definitely are thinking about this world as a big evolving world, and we want it to have the option of going in different directions. You’ll have to see what groundwork has been laid.”

Tom Hardy has recently revealed that he’s signed up for three appearances as Venom, and word is that should the movie prove to be a hit, Sony will put its plans for sequels and other Spidey spinoffs – such as Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, Silk, Nightwatch, solo movies for both Silver Sable and Black Cat, and Jackpot – onto the fast track)
