Mission: Impossible’s Rebecca Ferguson in talks for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune

September 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Mission: Impossible – Fallout star Rebecca Ferguson is in talks to join the cast of Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the classic Frank Herbert sci-fi book series Dune, THR has revealed.

Should talks prove successful, Ferguson will join a cast that includes Call Me By Your Name star Timothee Chalamet, who is playing the lead role as Paul Atreides, the son of a family who rule over the desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the universe’s most valuable substance

According to THR, Ferguson will take on the role of Atreides’ mother, Lady Jessica, who escapes with him into the desert, where he rises to become a leader of the nomadic tribes, amassing an army to overthrow the ruling Empire.

Ferguson, who broke out with her role as Ilsa Faust in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, is currently shooting Sony’s Men in Black spinoff alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, and also recently signed on to the cast of the Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep.

Villeneuve’s Dune adaptation is being produced by Legendary Entertainment, and the plan is to begin shooting the project in early 2019.
