Gotham Batsuit inspired by The Dark Knight Rises

October 14, 2018 by Gary Collinson

During the New York Comic Con last weekend, it was confirmed by Gotham producer John Stephens that Batman will appear in the season five finale, as the final episode of the Fox series skips ten years ahead to give us a peek at Bruce Wayne’s (David Mazouz) future once he dons the cape and cowl.

Now, chatting to BamSmackPow, Stephens has been discussing the design of Gotham’s Batsuit, stating that it will be similar to the one worn by Christian Bale’s Batman in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, as well as the pressure of living up to fan expectations when it comes to Batman’s costume.

“It’s inspired by, if I had to compare to any one costume, I’d say it’s closer to The Dark Knight Rises,” said Stephens. “It’s a little more metallic Bat battle-y looking rather than something like the Suicide one or the Affleck one. How much money can we allocate towards spending on this costume because it’s got to look good. Because you don’t want to spend five years, and all of a sudden go, ‘Great episode, but that was a really crappy looking costume.’ There’s a lot of pressure, but luckily our wardrobe department is amazing so all the designs they’re doing are going to be great. And we went with short ears.”

As yet, there’s been no word as to whether it will be David Mazouz portraying the future Batman in the finale, or if the show will be bringing in a different, older actor for its flashforward scenes. And, with the fifth and final season not due to get underway until Spring 2019, it will likely be a while before we get confirmation on that front, along with our first glimpse of the Batsuit itself.
