Rumoured details on Kylo Ren’s new appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX, and a sidekick for BB-8?

December 3, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

There’s a section of the Star Wars fanbase hoping that director J.J. Abrams will undo many of the controversial creative decisions in Star Wars: The Last Jedi with next year’s Star Wars: Episode IX.

Given how little we know about the movie, it remains to be seen whether there’ll be any retconning of Rey’s parents and the deaths of Supreme Leader Snoke and Luke Skywalker (let’s face it – it’s unlikely with regards to the latter two), but according to Making Star Wars, Abrams will be bringing back at least one discarded element from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The site reports that the former Ben Solo – now Supreme Leader of the First Order – will once again be donning a mask – a reforged version his original mask, to be precise (good job whoever swept it up kept all of the shattered pieces!). The site’s source claims that “to them it looked like the mask was pieced back together using some kind of red crystalline bonding material [which] gave the mask ‘a very corrupted look.’ A little Kylo, a little Vader, and maybe even with a hint of Maul’s facial stylings.”

In the same report, it’s also said that Episode IX will see BB-8 getting a little droid sidekick called D.O / Dio, and that it is a “sort of an ugly duckling idea in that the droid treated BB-8 as a parent and was very attached to him.”

Now, these are of course just unconfirmed rumours at present, but it’s worth pointing out that Making Star Wars has a very strong track record, and so it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if both of these titbits proves accurate.
