Charlie Cox was looking forward to battling Bullseye in Daredevil season 4

January 27, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Despite its latest season being highly acclaimed by fans and critics alike, Daredevil wasn’t able to escape Netflix’s Marvel cull, with the streaming service swinging the axe on the Man Without Fear after three seasons.

Fortunately, the season three finale did present a fairly satisfying end to Matt Murdock’s story, although it did end with a tease for the future, setting up Wilson Bethel’s Agent Poindexter for his full transformation into the classic Daredevil villain Bullseye.

Speaking to Inverse, Charlie Cox has revealed that the fourth season would indeed have pitted the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen against Bullseye, something he was very much looking forward to exploring.

“They’d had a preliminary conversation with me about what might happen and who might be involved or what the story might be,” said Cox. “What I heard was very exciting. So I had a vague sense of what the show might be. I had some idea. […] I was looking forward to Wilson Bethel kind of getting to inhabit the character of Bullseye. Season 3 was kind of an origin story for the character and how Agent Poindexter becomes that character. So I was looking forward to having a season where he really embodies the Bullseye persona and what that dynamic would be between Bullseye and Daredevil.”

Despite the Netflix cancellation, Marvel has teased that we can expect “more adventures with the Man without Fear in the future”, although whether this will be with the Charlie Cox version of the character remains to be seen.

Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world or embracing his destiny as a hero.

Season three of Daredevil sees Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin) all returning to the cast alongside new additions Joanne Whalley (Wolf Hall) as Sister Maggie and Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie) as Bullseye.
