Jared Leto shares behind-the-scenes image from Spider-Man spin-off Morbius

March 6, 2019 by Matt Rodgers

With production now underway on the gloomier streets of old London town, Jared Leto has shared an image to celebrate the first week of shooting on Spider-Man spin-off movie, Morbius.

There’s no hint of vampire yet, with the Oscar winning actor seemingly still in the getup of Dr Michael Morbius, a biochemist who becomes inflicted with a form of vampirism after attempting to cure himself of a rare blood disease, thus taking on the mantle of Morbius, the Living Vampire.

First appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 back in 1963, Morbius was originally a tragic and sympathetic enemy of Spidey, although much like Sony’s other highly lucrative Marvel spin-off Venom, he has since been portrayed as an antihero.

Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) is directing Morbius from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Lost in Space), while the cast includes Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) in the title role alongside Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising) as Martine Bancroft, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) in an as-yet-unrevealed role, and recent addition Jared Harris (Fringe).

Morbius, the Living Vampire is set for release on July 31st 2020.
