James Wan and It’s Gary Dauberman to adapt Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot

April 24, 2019 by Ricky Church

Another adaptation of Stephen King’s work is on the way, this time from The Conjuring creator James Wan and It: Chapter Two writer Gary Dauberman. The pair will bring Salem’s Lot, King’s second novel, to the big screen with Wan producing and Dauberman writing the script for New Line Cinema alongside producers Roy Lee and Mark Wolper.

Salem’s Lot follows Ben Mears, an author who returns to his hometown in order to write about an abandoned mansion in the small town. As he discovers the home has been bought by a mysterious man from Europe, Ben also realizes that townspeople are slowly being turned into vampires.

This will mark the third time Dauberman has worked on a King project after writing the scripts for It and It: Chapter Two, the latter of which comes out this fall. Wan and Dauberman have had a very extensive career together with Dauberman writing several spin-offs of Wan’s The Conjuring Universe, specifically Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation and The Nun. He will be making his directorial debut this summer with Annabelle Comes Home.

While Salem’s Lot has not been adapted to film before, it has been turned into several miniseries over the years, the most recent being 2004 with Rob Lowe.

There is no director yet attached to the film.
