HBO boss provides Game of Thrones prequel update

May 22, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Casey Bloys, the HBO programming president, has provided an update on the prequel to Game of Thrones and when we might expect to see it.

Now that the epic fantasy series that was Game of Thrones has come to an end, fans will be starting to turn their attention and excitement towards the spinoff prequel to the series, said to be set many centuries before the original show.

When might we expect to see this intriguing new series? Well, HBO boss Casey Bloys has spoken to Deadline about the upcoming show and said he isn’t too certain about when it will arrive and wants to make sure nothing is rushed:

“I don’t know. I have to get a sense from production when we see scripts for a season, how big and involved it is. Shooting a pilot in June and having it on the air a year later feels a little rushed, but it’s too soon to tell. The casting was completed a couple of weeks ago. They are busy in Belfast prepping and getting ready to start shooting in a couple of weeks.”

Bloys also commented on whether further spinoffs would be forthcoming, saying that they don’t want to just become a Game of Thrones factory:

“I doubt it, I don’t think so. I certainly do not want to overdo it. We have so many varied shows coming up in [2019] and ’20 and even into ’21. I think Game of Thrones is a fantastic property but I don’t want to just be the home of prequels and sequels and all that stuff. I think you want to be really careful about how you do it. That’s why we’ve been working on the Jane pilot for a long time, because we want to do it right. I don’t want to rush anything out just to rush it out. I think the last thing fans would want, something that was rushed out just to make it to air.”

Well, at least fans know that the cast is safely in place and the crew is hard at work on location, getting everything ready to start filming the new series next month! Hopefully, further updates will be with us shortly. Exciting times ahead for fans of this dark fantasy world.
