X-Men: Dark Phoenix director says the film lines up with Days of Future Past ending

May 30, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Simon Kinberg, the director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, says he has some “sense” of how the film lines up with the ending of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

While fans are getting ready to experience the last Fox produced X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, how will the film connect with what has come before it? The X-Men timeline is pretty shaky at best, and the climatic events of Days of Future Past didn’t help.

Simon Kinberg, the director of Dark Phoenix, has told Screen Rant, however, that he knows how the film will connect with the ending of Days of Future Past, saying: “I have some sense of it, yes, because I always feel as though I’m sort of responsible for the architecture of this and making sure that it all lines up. So I do have some sense of it, but I really did imagine this movie, in truth, as the culmination of this cycle of X-Men films and so I wasn’t really thinking past this film other than wanting to make sure that the logic was all sound.”

Well, at least Kinberg is thinking about these types of things, trying his best to make sure that the film lines up with what has come before it. Hopefully, Dark Phoenix is the culmination that the director is hoping for.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix sees Simon Kinberg directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside new additions Kota Eberhardt (The Persian Connection) as Selene, Andrew Stehlin (Hacksaw Ridge) as Red Lotus, and Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game) and Lamar Johnson (Kings). It is set for release on June 5th, 2019 in the UK and June 7th, 2019 in North America.
