Avengers: Endgame returning to cinemas with new post-credits scene and tribute

June 19, 2019 by Ricky Church

UPDATE: More info has now come to light regarding Marvel’s plans, with Kevin Feige confirming that the new release isn’t an extended cut, but will feature a brand new post-credits scene, along with “a tribute, and a few surprises”. Original story follows…

It goes without saying that Avengers: Endgame has dominated the box office so far this summer, earning a whopping $2.743 billion worldwide. The only movie with a bigger box office total is James Cameron’s Avatar with $2.788 billion. It’s been questioned if Endgame would manage to beat Avatar before going out of theatres, but now it may just have that chance as the superhero blockbuster will be re-released with new additional footage for audiences.

Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige confirmed this with ComicBook at the London premiere of Spider-Man: Far From Home. “We are doing that,” Feige said of additional footage for Endgame. “I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much… Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.”

So expect a more formal announcement on Avengers: Endgame‘s re-release soon as it sounds like it will be in theatres next weekend. Whether or not it will draw enough attention to beat Avatar is anybody’s guess, but the promise of new footage is an enticing one. Hopefully we’ll get more information on what exactly is being added back in and whether it will be a sufficient enough amount to make audiences come back to the theatre to see it.
