Coming 2 America adds James Earl Jones, Paul Bates, Rick Ross and Wesley Snipes

August 7, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Casting continues on Coming 2 America, with Deadline reporting that James Earl Jones and Paul Bates will be reprising their roles as King Jaffe Joffer and Oha as they reunite with Murphy’s Prince Akeem and Arsenio Hall’s Semmi in the follow-up to the 1988 comedy classic.

Along with Jones and Bates, it’s also been announced that Grammy-nominated rapper Rick Ross (Uncle Drew) has signed on for an as-yet-unrevealed role, while Wesley Snipes (Blade) will play Akeem’s nemesis General Izzi, the ruler of a neighbouring nation to Zamunda.

Snipes has recently worked with both Murphy and director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) on the Rudy Ray Moore biopic Dolemite is My Name, which is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

In Coming 2 America, “Akeem is set to become King of Zamunda but discovers he has a son he never knew about in America – a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. Honoring his father’s dying wish to groom this son as the crowned prince, Akeem and Semmi set off to America to meet the unlikely heir.”

Coming 2 America is set for release on December 18th 2020.
