In just a few short weeks, director Andy Muschietti takes us back to Derry for the final showdown between Pennywise and the Losers Club with New Line’s Stephen King adaptation It Chapter Two, and according to tracking estimates the sequel is on par to open as big as its 2017 predecessor.
According to Deadline, It Chapter Two is tracking $120 million domestically in its opening weekend, which would be the second-biggest September opening ever after the original film’s $123.4 million weekend).
Of course, tracking estimates aren’t always accurate, and with strong reviews and word of mouth, there’s every chance that the sequel could surpass Chapter One, and perhaps even offer some challenge Deadpool’s $132 million record as the biggest R-rated opening ever (some early forecasts had gone as high as $150 million, although that may be optimistic).

The first It grossed $700.4 million worldwide back in 2017, making it the highest-grossing horror movie of all time.
Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “It Chapter Two” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.
It Chapter Two will see Bill Skarsgard reprising his role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, while Jessica Chastain (Beverly), James McAvoy (Bill), Bill Hader (Richie), James Ransone (Eddie), Andy Bean (Stanley), Jay Ryan (Ben) and Isaiah Mustafa (Mike) star as the adult versions of The Losers’ Club. Young It stars Jaeden Martell, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Jack Dylan Grazer and Chosen Jacobs are also set to reprise their roles from the first movie in flashback sequences. It is set for release on September 6th 2019.
