Anthony Daniels admits he was originally “insulted to be offered the part” of C-3PO in Star Wars

October 28, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Star Wars veteran Anthony Daniels, who is best known for playing C-3PO, has admitted he was originally insulted to be offered the role as the iconic droid in an interview with Digital Spy.

“It’s very odd because I didn’t want the interview with George Lucas. I was insulted to be offered the part, or to discuss the part of a robot in a low budget science fiction film,” Daniels said when promoting Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. “My agent made me go, and here I am today. I am now a heritage player. I have to get this right because I keep calling us heirloom players, which I’m told is a type of vegetable or tomato. It’s Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and I — and more.”

“So there you go. It is odd to be the observer, against my will originally, but now with amazement.”

Despite his initial response to the role, Daniels will now be the only actor to be included in all nine instalments of the Skywalker Saga beginning with A New Hope and set to conclude this December The Rise of Skywalker. And, based upon the final trailer of The Rise of Skywalker, it appears C-3PO may have a major role to play in the climactic chapter of the Skywalker Saga when the Resistance faces Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, The First Order, and The Emperor.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on December 19th 2019 in the UK and December 20th 2019 in North America. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), and Keri Russell (The Americans).
