Ben Solo and Luke Skywalker battle the Knights of Ren on cover to Marvel’s Kylo Ren comic

October 25, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

It remains to be seen how much we’ll learn about the Knights of Ren in December’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but it seems that Marvel will be fleshing out their past in its upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren comic series, with the cover to January’s second issue showing Ben Solo and Luke Skywalker engaged in battle with the mysterious group of villains.

Here’s the solicitation for the issue…

  • With the new Jedi school in ruins and fellow students hot on his trail for the murder of their master, Ben Solo flees to the only friend he has left in the galaxy…a man named Snoke. But Snoke has plans for Ben…and ideas about the Force that are as dangerous as they are intriguing for the troubled young Jedi.
  • If Ben wishes to be truly free…the answers might lie with the Dark Side. And with the Knights of Ren!
  • But it won’t be the first time he’s tangled with the Knights. In the past, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker journeys to the Unknown Regions and brings young Ben along for the mission. Can even Luke Skywalker stand against the fabled Knights of Ren?!

Interestingly, you’ll notice that one of the Knights depicted on the cover is wielding a red lightsaber. Whether this confirms that the Knights of Ren are force users, or just this particular character (who, judging by the marketing material we’ve seen for The Rise of Skywalker, isn’t around by the time of Episode IX), remains to be seen.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on December 19th 2019 in the UK and December 20th 2019 in North America with J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), and Keri Russell (The Americans).
