Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has propelled its global box office total to $725 million in its first twelve days of release after a strong second weekend both domestically and overseas.
The concluding chapter to the Skywalker Saga held onto top spot in North America with $72 million, and battled it out with Jumanji: The Next Level internationally where it pulled in a further $94.3 million despite dropping to second in the box office chart in a number of markets including Italy and Australia.
The Rise of Skywalker is around 5% behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi over the same timeframe, and current projections have it finishing its global run with around $1.1 billion. That would make its the seventh Disney-distributed film to pass the billion dollar mark this year and the fifth Star Wars release to reach the milestone.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E.
