Pirates of the Caribbean producer unsure about Johnny Depp’s involvement with next film

May 15, 2020 by Liam Waddington

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is still one of Disney’s most lucrative properties, and the studio is not putting the series on the shelf as of yet as a sixth film is currently in development, with recent rumours claiming that Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji star Karen Gillan could be the new lead.

However, fans of the franchise are still wondering if the lead actor Johnny Depp and his iconic portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow will return once more. Unfortunately, in a recent interview with Collider, Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer has offered an update on Depp’s status with the next instalment and it doesn’t sound positive at the moment.

“The one we’re developing right now, we’re not sure quite what Johnny’s role is going to be,” Bruckheimer revealed. “So, we’re going to have to see.”

Although we are five instalments into the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise so far, the consistent factor and main driving force of the series was Depp’s role as the swashbuckling pirate Captain Jack Sparrow – so future instalments could end up feeling slightly empty without him. However, Disney and Bruckheimer are planning to move forward with the franchise soon with or without Depp as a lead.

Are you looking forward to the next instalment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise? Do you think Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow once more? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
