James Gunn confirms that The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker are both R-rated

January 5, 2021 by Gary Collinson

This probably won’t come as much of a surprise given that several of the cast members have already spoken about the mayhem and insanity that director James Gunn has planned for Task Force X in The Suicide Squad, but the filmmaker has now officially confirmed on social media that his DC Extended Universe blockbuster will be R-rated.

This fits with earlier comments from Rick Flag actor Joel Kinnaman, who described The Suicide Squad as a “heavily R-rated” comedy, as well as  those from John Cena, the Peacemaker actor having called the movie “quite graphic” and warning us to bring a change of pants as it’s “gonna make you shit your pants“.

And speaking of Cena and Peacemaker, it seems the HBO Max spinoff series is also going to retain that R-rated mentality, as Gunn has dismissed a recent rumour suggesting that the show will also air on The CW by stating: “Lol. No. If we edited it for broadcast TV it would be forty seconds long.”

The Suicide Squad sees James Gunn directing a cast that includes Suicide Squad returnees Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) as well as new DCEU additions Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi, Jennifer Holland, David Dastmalchian, Joaquín Cosío, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, John Cena, Pete Davidson, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Julio Ruiz, Steve Agee, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, and Sylvester Stallone.
