It seems that one of the most iconic vehicles in the Star Wars saga is set to undergo a name change of sorts, with reports circulating that Disney has dropped the Slave I name from Boba Fett’s starship and will instead now refer to the craft as… well… Boba Fett’s Starship.
The news was revealed by fan site Jedi News during an interview with LEGO Lead Designer Michael Lee Stockwell and Design Director Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, who were addressing the newly announced LEGO Star Wars Boba Fett’s Starship set which will release this August:
“Weโre not calling it Slave I anymore. This is Boba Fettโs Starship,” said Stockwell, with Frederiksen adding: “Everybody is [dropping it]. Itโs probably not something which has been announced publicly but it is just something that Disney doesnโt want to use anymore.”
At the time of reporting, there’s yet to be any confirmation from Disney and Lucasfilm, and the ship is still listed as Slave I on the official Star Wars Databank, although the URL does refer to it as Boba Fett’s Starship. However, Disney has already come in for some criticism over the potential decision, not least from actor Mark Austin, who portrayed Boba Fett for the bounty hunters scenes in 1997’s Special Edition version of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

Dear #disney
In regards to the #starwars franchise.
If you DONโT like it. DONโT buy it.
Simple.

My ship will forever be Slave1.
Nothing. Not even #disney can or will change that.
This is the way. pic.twitter.com/Qt99Yo8dEz

When applying for personalized plates for my car the DMV would not allow โSlave1โ. Okay I understand. Had to try. But I get it.
This #disney idiocy however. Not buying it. Not conforming to the Mouse, no siree. Not gonna happen.
When I was growing up I loved #disney. No more. pic.twitter.com/9076VcIiwN
