Video Review – Red Rocket feels raunchy, offensive, and near perfect!

December 14, 2021 by EJ Moreno

EJ Moreno with a video review of Sean Baker’s Red Rocket…

Sean Baker is back with another film, and Red Rocket could be his best yet. Going into Red Rocket, you may expect something shocking like Pink Flamingos or Kids. While it offers a bit of those, the filmmakers went with a more realistic approach.

Baker team with Simon Rex for one of the year’s most edgy films. Can the shocking subject matter win over viewers and voters at the Oscars 2022? Watch EJ’s review below, and be sure to follow us on YouTube for more reviews, exclusive interviews, and other video content…

Finding himself down and out in Los Angeles, ex-porn star Mikey Saber decides to crawl back to his hometown of Texas City, Texas, where his estranged wife and mother-in-law are living. Just as this dysfunctional family seems to be making things work, Mikey meets a young woman named Strawberry working the cash register at a local doughnut shop. He falls right back into his old habits.

The audacious new film from writer-director Sean Baker (The Florida Project, Tangerine), starring Simon Rex in a magnetic, live-wire performance, Red Rocket is a darkly funny and humane portrait of a uniquely American hustler and a hometown that barely tolerates him.

A24’s Red Rocket is out now in cinemas.
