Robert Downey Jr. and Shane Black to Play Dirty for Amazon

March 6, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Robert Downey Jr. is set to reunite with his Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black on Play Dirty, the first of what is planned to be a number film and TV projects centred on the character of Parker, a professional thief and the protagonist of Donald E. Westlake’s book series.

Black is set to direct Play Dirty from a script he’s adapted with Charles Mondry and Anthony Bagarozzi, and he will also produce alongside Joel Silver (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys) and Downey and Susan Downey of Team Downey.

Play Dirty will see the Iron Man star taking on the role of Parker, “a professional thief who approaches his job with a straightforward, no-nonsense work ethic. He’s a craftsman. He’s brutal, brilliant. He’s also deadly. He’s whatever it takes to get the money and get away clean.”

Downey – who is currently shooting Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer – will become the fifth actor to portray Parker after Lee Marvin (Point Blank), Robert Duvall (The Outfit), Mel Gibson (Payback) and Jason Statham (Parker).
