Peacemaker cut a shot of Aquaman having sex with a sturgeon, says James Gunn

April 5, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Throughout the first season of Peacemaker, one of the running gags throughout the HBO Max series was Christopher Smith’s (John Cena) wild, unfounded claims about the secret fetishes of some of the DC Extended Universe’s biggest heroes.

One of those – the rumours that Aquaman likes to have sex with fish – he got to put directly to the man himself when Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller (The Flash) popped up for a cameo in the season one finale, and according to James Gunn, the original plan was to show the audience – explicitly – that this was one claim that held water.

“I have tons of stuff I didn’t use,” said Gunn in an interview with Total Film regarding the finale cameos. “Ezra went on – and I’m not kidding – for 16 minutes about Aquaman having sex with fish. It was really funny. Then, we had just one quick shot of Momoa banging the shit out of a sturgeon.”

Funny as it may have been, it’s certainly understandable why this never made it to the final cut, and we have to assume that James Wan is breathing a sigh of relief ahead of next year’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Peacemaker sees John Cena reprising his role from The Suicide Squad as Christopher Smith, the titular ‘Peacemaker’, alongside co-stars Steve Agee (John Economos) and Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt). New additions include Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Chukwudi Iwuji (News of the World), Lochlyn Munro (Scary Movie), Annie Chang (Shades of Blue), Christopher Heyerdahl (Van Helsing), Elizabeth Ludlow (The Walking Dead), Rizwan Manji (Schitt’s Creek), Nhut Le (Raven’s Home), Alison Araya (Riverdale), Lenny Jacobson (For All Mankind), and Freddie Stroma (Bridgerton).

Peacemaker is available to stream now on HBO Max in the U.S. and on NOW in the UK.
