With Fast X continuing production under new director Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk), Vin Diesel has taken to his personal Instagram to announce that Rita Moreno (West Side Story) has joined the cast as the grandmother of Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto.
In the announcement video, Diesel, while sitting between Moreno and his longtime co-star Michelle Rodriguez, stated: “It’s been my dream forever to work with Rita Moreno, and the fact that she’s here playing my grandmother makes my soul smile.” Moreno later commented that she has been waiting for the invitation to join the long-running action franchise.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, Variety is reporting that the next two Fast & Furious instalments will explore more of the Toretto family tree after meeting Dom’s long-lost brother Jakob (John Cena) in F9.
Moreno is set to join a cast that includes Fast & Furious veterans Vin Diesel, Sung Kang, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Charlize Theron and Scott Eastwood, along with franchise newcomers Jason Momoa, Daniela Melchior, Brie Larson and Alan Ritchson.
Fast X will be released on May 19th, 2023.
