James Gunn reassures fans on the future of Peacemaker after Batgirl cancellation

August 4, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Amidst all of the fallout surrounding Warner Bros. decision to lock Batgirl in the cave marked ‘tax write-off’ in response to negative test screenings, and the turmoil over at HBO Max, James Gunn has rushed to reassure fans that season 2 of his DC Extended Universe series Peacemaker will still go ahead as planned.

Social media is alive with the sound of discourse at the moment, with fans worried about the futures of some of their favourite properties as we begin to see the ramifications of the Warner Bros./Discovery merger. One such user posted about the already greenlit second season of James Gunn’s really-rather-good The Suicide Squad spin-off Peacemaker.

They’ve already cancelled an in-the-can $90M blockbuster, so who’s to say they won’t look to trim elsewhere? However, Gunn was quick to let people know that season 2 was still happening, replying with a simple “Yes, guys, calm down”. When has Twitter ever listened to that kind of advice?

Yes, guys, calm down.

There’s no word yet as to whether the shake-up will affect the future of the planned Viola Davis Suicide Squad spin-off series which was announced earlier this year, but at this stage it’s best to focus on the positives among the pandemonium, and a second season of Peacemaker is really welcome news.
