First look at Jodie Comer in The End We Start From as Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong join the cast of apocalyptic drama

September 7, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Jodie Comer is currently breaking records with the box-office receipts for the cinematic screenings of her one-woman stage play Prima Facie, but that’s not all the Liverpudlian actor is up to, because she’s also filming London-set apocalyptic drama The End We Start From, which has just promoted Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong to the cast, as well as giving us a first glimpse at Comer’s character.

Deadline debuted the first look at The End We Start From, which is a feminist survival story story set amid an environmental crisis that sees London submerged by flood waters, and focuses on a young family torn apart in the chaos. Comer will play a mother who with her new-born child tries to find a way home, navigating the most challenging and apocalyptic start to motherhood.

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), whose SunnyMarch production company picked up the rights to the novel back in 2017, has also been added to the cast along with executive producer Marc Strong (The Kingsman: The Secret Service). They join the previously announced Katherine Waterston (The World To Come), alongside fellow new additions Joel Fry (Cruella), Gina McKee (My Policeman) and Nina Sosanya (His Dark Materials).

Based on Megan Hunter’s novel, The End We Start From is being directed by BAFTA winner Mahalia Belo (The Long Song) who is working from a script by Succession writer Alice Birch.
