Batwoman’s Javicia Leslie joins The Flash season 9 as villain Red Death

October 25, 2022 by EJ Moreno

As CW’s The Flash ends, it’s gaining a major villain for its final season in the form of Red Death.

Batwoman star Javicia Leslie is returning to the Arrowverse to portray Red Death in the ninth and final season of The Flash.

In DC Comics, Red Death is a member of the Dark Knights, a group of alternate Multiversal versions of Batman led by The Batman Who Laughs. The character is a mashup between Batman and the Flash. In the comics, Batman is so hurt by the deaths of various Robins that it leads him to harness the Speed Force to boost his crimefighting.

Arrowverse fans will remember Red Death was mentioned in Season 5 of The Flash, where Central City police captain David Singh said, “Cicada killed more people than Zoom or even the Red Death.”

Leslie starred in Batwoman Seasons 2 and 3 as Ryan Wilder, stepping into the role and replacing Katherine “Kate” Kane after Ruby Rose’s departure from the show.

The Flash season 9 will air on The CW in 2023.
