She-Hulk showrunner on the introduction of Hulk’s son Skaar

October 19, 2022 by EJ Moreno

If you saw the last episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, you were probably surprised by the reveal of Skaar, Bruce’s Hulk son.

Skaar’s reveal came  at the end of the season when Bruce arrives late to a family party and introduces his son Skaar, from the planet Sakaar. For comic book fans, this meant significant implications for Hulk’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the showrunner wanted that exact reaction.

Jessica Gao spoke to EW about Skaar’s debut, saying it was always intended to do a shocking MCU reveal, but it wasn’t always going to be a Skaar cameo.

“Initially when we first started talking about how the season would end, we were like, ‘It’d be fun if we did a big cameo at the very, very end, the last scene, the last moment, a big cameo from the MCU. That’d be really cool,'” Gao tells EW in a new interview.

“But then we realized that’s so dependent on who’s willing to do it, what their availability is, and there’s just no way at the scripting stage that we would be able to get any sort of guarantees on who would be able to do it,” Gao continues. “It’s so dependent on that that you can’t really commit to a person in the script. So then we thought it would be really cool if we could tease a new character at the end, either as the last moment of the last scene or even as a post-credits tag.”

Gao said they “went through a lot of the comics to find out who we could use, but it was really dependent on whether or not Kevin [Feige] would okay all of that”, and added that Skaar’s MCU’s future is also entirely up to Feige, adding: “It was Kevin himself who decided that it should be Skaar, so direct all future questions about that to the man himself.

The debut of Skaar could potentially mean a future Planet Hulk or World War Hulk movie or storyline, but as Gao says, it’s up to the boss man of the MCU if those plans can happen.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, Benedict Wong as Wong, Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Jameela Jamil as Titania, Ginger Gonzaga as Nikki Ramos, Josh Segarra as Pug Pugliese, Jon Bass as Todd Phelps/HulkKing, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Mallory Book, Mark Linn-Baker as Morris Walters and Tess Malis Kincaid as Elaine Walters.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is available now on Disney+.
