Evil Dead Rise image teases Boomsticks and bloodshed in the big city

December 20, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin had recently been talking up the horror elements of his Deadites Downtown take on Sam Raimi’s iconic horror franchise, but a picture says so much more, and so until we finally get to see a trailer for the sequel we’ll have to make do with this Empire Magazine exclusive image.

Depicting Lily Sullivan’s Beth wielding the infamous twelve-gauge double-barrelled shotgun used by Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams in the original trilogy, all while covered in what we can assume is leftover Deadite, the image backs up what Cronin tells Empire about Evil Dead Rise when he says “It straps you onto a rocket that’s fuelled by blood”.

Produced by the original Evil Dead trio of Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert, this is the fifth installment in the horror franchise, and the first since Fede Álvarez’s terrific 2013 remake. Directed by The Hole in the Ground‘s Lee Cronin, the film relocates the action from a cabin-in-the-woods to a high-rise apartment building in Los Angeles.

In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.

Featuring in the cast of Evil Dead Rise are Lily Sullivan (I Met a Girl), Alyssa Sutherland (The Mist), Morgan Davies (The End), Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence) and Nell Fisher (Northspur).

Evil Dead Rise is set for release on April 21st 2023.
