Willem Dafoe to reunite with Robert Eggers on Nosferatu

January 27, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Willem Dafoe is set to return to the world of Nosferatu by joining his The Lighthouse and The Northman director Robert Eggers in the director’s reimagining of the gothic tale.

Deadline reports that Dafoe will collaborate with Eggers once again in an as yet unspecified role alongside Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, and Bill Skarsgard, who’s set to play the titular character.

Eggers take on Nosferatu is described as “a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.”

Dafoe has already sunk his teeth into the world of Nosferatu, earning an Oscar nomination in the process for the What We Do in the Shadows-style arthouse creature-feature Shadow of the Vampire, which posited that F. W. Murnau’s 1922 classic had actually cast a real vampire in Max Schreck.

Similarly his co-star Nicholas Hoult will be well-versed in dealing with the Lord of the Damned by the time Nosferatu arrives, as he irons out his issues with Nicolas Cage’s Dracula in Universal’s Renfield, which is due out in April.
