Donald Glover reveals “we’re talking about it” when it comes to playing Lando Calrissian again

April 5, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

With Star Wars Celebration set to open the hangar doors at a space port somewhere in London this weekend, we’re starting to get some galaxy far, far away gossip filtering through, and few titbits will be as exciting as the news that Donald Glover is still keen to return to the role of Lando Calrissian.

This isn’t the first time the possibility of Glover returning to the role has coincided with Star Wars Celebration. It was only last year that Kathleen Kennedy revealed that they were still talking about a Solo: A Star Wars Story spin-off for the Atlanta actor.

Remember, years of Ewan McGregor speaking about his desire to return to the role of Obi-Wan eventually paid-off with his own Disney+ series, so Glover claiming that he’d like to hang out with the character once again could lead to the same outcome.

Speaking with GQ about his most iconic characters Glover said “I mean, I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time to be him. It just has to be the right, it just needs to be the right way to do it. I’m all about like, now it’s like, you know, like time is precious. I think everybody’s like, you know, in the past couple of years this pandemic shit, like, really, had people experience time in a way where they’re like well why am I? I should be around oranges. Like, and people, you know, like people kind of realize like their time is valuable, you know, you only get so much. So like, I’m not interested in doing anything that’s just gonna be like a waste of my time or just a pay check. I’d much rather like, you know, spend time with people that I like, enjoy. So it just has to be the right thing which I think it could be. I mean like Lando is definitely somebody I’d like to hang out with. So yeah, I mean we’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say, you know, without Kathleen Kennedy like, hunting me down.”

Despite underperforming with $392M at the worldwide box-office in 2018, Solo: A Star Wars Story has formed a passionate following since its release, with many singling out the performance of Donald Glover as the cape wearing Lando Calrissian as a key reason for this. The duplicitous smuggler was a role originally made famous by Billy Dee Williams, who first appeared in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, before returning for 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Let us know whether you think we’ll ever get to see Donald Glover play Lando again by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth….
