Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 tracking $130 million domestic opening, new TV spots released

April 17, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

There’s just over just over three weeks to go before we embark on our last mission with James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and as the ragtag group of cosmic heroes prepare for the final tour the first box office tracking estimates for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have arrived.

According to Deadline, the final chapter of the trilogy is on course to open with $130 million from its first weekend in North America, which is around 10% down on the $146.5 million domestic bow for 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Whether that’s a touch of a pandemic-related hangover or a sign of Marvel’s fading box office fortunes is unclear, but given the popularity of the first two movies we shall certainly get an indication when the film opens on May 5th. In the meantime, check out the latest TV spots here…

“In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere,” reads the synopsis. “But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 brings the galactic gang back together one last time and sees the return of Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Sylvester Stallone (Stakar Ogord), Elizabeth Debecki (Ayesha) and Michael Rosenbaum (Martinex), alongside MCU newcomers Will Poulter (Dopesick) as Adam Warlock, Chukwudi Iwuji (Peacemaker) as the High Evolutionary, Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) as Cosmo the Spacedog, and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) and Nico Santos (Crazy Rich Asians) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set for release on May 5th 2022.
