Emma Stone stars in teaser trailer for Frankenstein-esque Poor Things

May 11, 2023 by Amie Cranswick

Searchlight Pictures has debuted the first trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’  Poor Things.

Based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel of the same name, the Frankenstein-inspired tale follows Bella (Emma Stone), a woman brought back to life by unorthodox Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), as she runs away with a debauched lawyer (Mark Ruffalo) in search of equality and liberation. Watch the trailer below…

From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

Featuring in the cast of Poor Things are Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, and Christopher Abbott.

Poor Things arrives in cinemas on September 8th.
