Chad Stahelski confirms John Wick: Chapter 4 Director’s Cut

June 22, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Prepare for more John Wick: Chapter 4 as director Chad Stahelski has confirmed to ComicBookMovie.com during a promotional interview for the upcoming home release that an extended cut of the R-rated, almost three-hour movie is on the way.

“Yeah, I’ve been working on the Director’s Cut, the extended cut, which we’ve almost finished. There’s about another, I think, 10 to 15 minutes we put back in,” says Stahelski. “We cut out a big chunk of Berlin, a whole character called The Frau, which is a pretty funny scene with John, and another scene between him and Tracker, a few other little action beats that we put back in.”

The director notes what it takes to make such an explosive action film, noting that most of what gets taken out is usually fights they’d want to keep. Stahelski explains, “I mean, yeah, there’s always stuff we take out because it doesn’t fit the pacing. I think the stuff is all super quality; I love the choreo, I love the characters. It just didn’t – as a whole, it changed the pace of the film, and I didn’t think I could get, you know, two hour and 38-minute film in there if it felt slow.

He adds, “I think we got away with it because it felt driven, it felt like it was very purposeful, and I didn’t want to upset that pace. And, if it has to go, it has to go.”

Are you looking forward to an extended cut of John Wick: Chapter 4? Oliver Stone most likely isn’t…

“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating the High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 is once again directed by Chad Stahelski and stars Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Lance Reddick as Charon, Ian McShane as Winston, and Laurence Fishburne as The Bowery King. Newcomers to the franchise include Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Japanese-British pop singer Rina Sawayama, Hiroyuki Sanada (Army of the Dead), Marko Zaror (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Shamier Anderson (Wynonna Earp), Bill Skarsgård (It: Chapter Two), Scott Adkins (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption).
