David S. Goyer reveals a Guillermo del Toro Star Wars film almost happened

September 24, 2023 by EJ Moreno

It’s evident if you know his work and career that Guillermo del Toro loves cinema; he even adores the most popular franchises like Star Wars.

But fans just found out recently that del Toro’s love for films like Star Wars almost turned into doing a project for the Disney-owned brand. At least that’s what writer and director David S. Goyer noted in a recent interview, claiming he penned a treatment for the never-produced movie.

While appearing on the Josh Horowitz-hosted podcast Happy Sad Confused, the filmmaker dropped the bombshell that around “four years ago,” we almost got del Toro in the galaxy far, far away.

He recalls that he “wrote an unproduced Star Wars movie that Guillermo del Toro was going to direct.”

Goyer adds, “There was just a lot of behind[-the-scenes] stuff going on at Lucasfilm at the time, but it’s a cool script … There’s a lot of cool artwork from it that was produced.”

Of course, del Toro himself addressed the comment from Goyer and delighted fans with his usual brilliant way of teasing. Check out del Toro’s post below…

True. Can't say much. Maybe two letters "J" and "BB" is that three letters? https://t.co/qpGaSD3y7F

Goyer also noted that he believes “dabbling [further] in Star Wars would’ve been fun” for him, even with another never-produced project like his script treatment for an Origins of the Jedi movie.

David S. Goyer is currently promoting the finale for Season 2 of Foundation, which he executive produces and serves as showrunner for the series on Apple TV+.
