Netflix’s One Piece shatters records previously set by Stranger Things and Wednesday

September 4, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Never underestimate the power of a straw hat.

The long-running manga and anime series One Piece made its live-action debut this past week, premiering on Netflix across the globe. Netflix’s live-action anime adaptation is already a success for the streamer, breaking records set by some equally memorable Netflix projects.

According to OnePieceNetflixFan, the series has reached the #1 position on Netflix’s Top 10 chart in 84 countries, which surpasses the previous record of 83 countries held by both Wednesday and the fourth season of Stranger Things.

With both series being among the most-watched Netflix shows ever, One Piece could be looking for an equally strong opening number. The series’ first eight episodes are now streaming, and by the looks of it, this will only grow its massive fanbase more and more.

Inspired by the manga series, One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember. Motivated by his desire to become King of the Pirates, Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, ONE PIECE! But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy must assemble the crew he’s always wanted and find a ship to sail.

Featuring in the cast of One Piece are Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, alongside a cast that also includes Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala.

One Piece is now streaming on Netflix.
