Geena Davis talks about not returning for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

April 15, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Ghosts aren’t supposed to age, or at least that’s what Geena Davis feels kept her from returning for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

With the sequel to Tim Burton’s classic 1988 film expected to drop this fall, fans were curious to know why original actress Geena Davis (and to some extent Alec Baldwin) wasn’t set for Burton’s new film.

Davis explains to Entertainment Tonight why she believes she wasn’t brought back: “No, I’m not. I’m not in the remake. Oh, you were expecting that I would be? Yeah, no, you know what? Because my theory is that ghosts don’t age… not that I have. Our characters were stuck the way they looked when they died forever, so it’s been a while, it’s been a minute.”

If you’re wondering why Michael Keaton is returning, his Ghost With The Most is under massive makeup. His Beetlejuice still looks excellent, but so does Davis. Let’s see if Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will mention their departure.

Check out the trailer for the long-awaited sequel below…

Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sees Tim Burton return to the director’s chair with Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, alongside newcomers Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe and Justin Theroux.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will hit theaters on September 6th.
