Upcoming video game Spine set for live-action movie adaptation

April 22, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Videogame developer Nekki has announced that it is teaming with media company Story Kitchen to adapt its upcoming gun-fu action game Spine into a live-action feature film.

Unveiled at last year’s PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted, Spine is an action-adventure game following a street artist Redline, whose abilities are enhanced by the sentient combat implant Spine. The game and movie will follow Redline and Spine as they take on an autocratic AI regime.

“We’re so pleased to bring Spine to Story Kitchen” said Dmitry Terekhin, Founder/CEO of Nekki. “We believe that truly great stories always stand out, and the Spine universe will captivate audiences across any media.”

“When we first learned of the upcoming game from Nekki, we lost our collective minds and had to find a way to partner,” added the team at Story Kitchen. “Spine, with its main character ‘Redline’, could not be more badass!”

Founded by Sonic the Hedgehog movie producer Dmitri M. Johnson, Story Kitchen is working on a number of video game adaptations, including Netflix’s upcoming Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft animated series featuring Hayley Atwell. Other projects on the development slate include Streets of Rage, Vampire Survivors, My Friend Pedro, Life Is Strange and Disco Elysium.

Spine is currently in development for PC and consoles. You can watch the first gameplay trailer here.
