20th Century Fox records $5.5 billion global box office for 2014

One of Hollywood’s major studios, 20th Century Fox, has had a record-breaking year at the worldwide box office. Topping the previous record high set by Paramount Pictures in 2011 by over $350 million, 2014 saw the studio earn in excess of $5.5 billion at this years box office.

Hitting it big for the studio in 2014 were X-Men: Days of Future Past, which grossed $748million worldwide ($233 million domestic, $514 international) and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, which grossed $709 million worldwide ($209million domestic, $500 million international), both of which ended up placing No.9 and No.10 in the studios all-time global hits.

The studio has also reported that eight of its releases in 2014 passed $100million domestically, with a $1.79 billion US cume total, making it the studio’s best ever year, and finishing No.1 among all of the studios box-office totals for the year. Alongside Apes and X-Men in the $100 million club were Gone Girl, The Maze Runner, Rio 2, The Fault In Our Stars and Fox/Dreamworks Animation hits How To Train Your Dragon 2 and Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

In addition, thirteen of Fox’s pictures crossed $100 million overseas.
