Survival horror Dead Format launches playable demo

September 27, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Solo developer Katanalevy and publisher Oro Interactive have announced the launch of a playable demo for the upcoming survival horror game, Dead Format, on Steam. This new demo will provide players with two twisted worlds to explore and threats to fight. Watch the new trailer celebrating the release of this demo, below…..

Dead Format takes players back to 1990’s Scotland, where they will play as a sibling whose brother has gone missing after becoming obsessed with mysterious VHS tapes. Each VHS tape is inspired by iconic film eras, and players will need to dive into these cinematic worlds, fight the threats that dwell there, and find their missing brother. In this new demo, players will have the opportunity to explore two of these mysterious VHS tapes, a 30s silent era horror and 80s body horror.

After exploring each twisted world, players will be able to return to their apartment, their only safe place. Here they will be able to catch their breath, gather their thoughts, and study the clues that will help them locate their brother.

This new demo provides players with a taste of the horror to come, including:

  • Two sinister worlds to explore.
  • Authentic, original VHS footage created specifically to creep players out.
  • Use the apartment to review clues and begin to piece together your brother’s disappearance.
  • Watch out for the nightmarish threats hidden in shadows and complete devious puzzles that block the passage to survival.

The Dead Format playable demo is available on Steam now.
