Jessie Robertson reviews the eleventh episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 2…
“The Ambassador of Chill” – getting that printed on my next business card
I was so ready to write this show off, but damn it, I think they are getting to me! It began with tonight’s opening voice over – while usually trite and cheesy, this time everyone’s favorite rogue Mick gets to do it and begins by calling us the viewers, “stupid idiots.” That just warms my heart. He concludes his message by asking “who writes this crap?”. It’s pure gold. Mick’s killer run doesn’t stop there in this episode. He’s enjoying himself for some reason here more than ever; perhaps it’s because he got Snart out of his head or he really is changing. The crew finds a time anomaly involving George Washington being murdered before he takes the Delaware in the Revolutionary War; they need to fix it. Sara immediately gives them all assignments, Mick’s being a private in Washington’s forces. Mr. President himself is very tall, for one, and righteous but seems like an accepting fellow. He and Mick bond as they are taken hostage by Cornwallis’ men and form an even tighter bond as they do some major ass kicking together. It’s an awesome scene and really puts some bang into what this show can do with its historical figures. Afterwards, Mick and George share a drink together and a hug and it’s all dynamite.
There is a lot going on tonight, even with Sara put out of commission (Rip shoots her early on and detonates an EMP near the Waverider, completely crippling it.) So with their fearless leader down for the count, Jax steps up and makes a plan. There is so much going on ! Let’s just say Ray (miniaturized) goes to turn the power back on while being chased by a giant rat, Stein has to be the other kind of doctor he reminds the team he isn’t weekly to save Sara and Jax has to “Home Alone” the ship as Rip and his men break in and come aboard. Even without being Firestorm, Jax finds some real strength and again proves to me why he was much more interesting than previous half of Firestorm, Ronnie. Rip also has some great dialogue as Jax is trying to convince him to turn back to their side when he retorts “you mean, recruit a bunch of loser super heroes and not save my son’s life?” Not quite the capsule review I would have given for season one, but it does the job!
Oh yeah, Nate and Amaya hook up! When he’s dropped into a freezing cold river, Amaya has to use “Seal Form” to rescue him but there’s only one other way to get his body temperature down! It’s all extremely cute but Nate becomes a bit weird as soon as this happens; he forgets his team needs him and his moustache was a bit creepy. Sara and Jax have some great moments together, there’s a Christmas dinner, this episode had so much but it was so stuffed with goodies like a stocking, you don’t mind to keep digging.
