During the closing scenes of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince told Bruce Wayne that “100 years ago, I walked away from mankind” – a clear set-up for this year’s solo movie, which saw Wonder Woman encountering the horrors of World War I.
However, as we saw at the end of Wonder Woman, Diana seemed pretty far from abandoning mankind, and Gal Gadot has now revealed that the decision was actually made to retcon the character’s history after Batman v Superman:
“We realized that actually, there is no way that Wonder Woman will ever give up on mankind,” said Gadot during a press interview for Justice League (via Screen Rant). “The reason why she left the island was because she wanted to make their life better and safer – they are her calling. So – I’m giving you a very honest answer – sometimes, in a creative process, you establish something that is not necessarily the right decision, but then you can always correct it and change it. So Wonder Woman will always be there as far as she concerns for mankind.”

As Gadot explains, it certainly seems like a smart move from a character point of view, even if it means her line from Batman v Superman now makes little sense.
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
